Project title:

 Hsp70/J-protein chaperones substrate binding cycle: molecular mechanisms and functional consequences

 Project is carried out within the Team 4/2017  programme of the Foundation for Polish Science

Project description:

 The goal of this project is to gain a better understanding of molecular characteristic of Hsp70, and its J-protein co-chaperones, that drive their specific functions in cellular processes both under physiological conditions or under stress or pathology. In our research, we will be employing a well-established J-protein/Hsp70 system functioning in iron-sulfur cluster biogenesis in mitochondria of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Our long-term goal is to demonstrate that J-proteins are exploitable targets for disease intervention, because their specificity increases the likelihood Hsp70 activity can be specifically manipulated in a therapeutically beneficial way.

Key responsibilities include:

• perform research using biochemical, genetic and molecular biology and computational techniques (independently and in collaboration with other team members)
• participate in research design and data analysis
• actively participate in lab meetings, departmental seminars and conferences

Profile of candidates/requirements:

• Bachelor degree in biotechnology, biology, bioinformatics, chemistry
• Laboratory training in biochemistry, molecular biology, microbial molecular genetics or training in bioinformatics, genomics, molecular phylogeny
• Ability to communicate fluently in English (spoken and written)
• Strong motivation to pursue scientific questions, creativity and analytical thinking
