PhD STUDENTS – SCHOLARSHIPS IN THE PROJECT (2 vacancies)
OPUS-19 titled OPUS-19 titled "Investigation of Triple Negative Breast Cancer Progression – Blood Analysis Based on Single-Cell Sequencing and Artificial Intelligence Methods" funded by the National Science Centre (UMO2020/37/B/NZ7/02069)
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The aim of the project is to explain interactions and heterogeneity at the single-cell level in the peripheral blood of patients with triple-negative breast cancer undergoing neoadjuvant therapy. Particular focus is given to circulating tumor cells, neutrophils, and platelets. The results of the research will enable the identification of molecular profiles crucial for breast cancer progression and the assessment of treatment response. The project also aims to identify biomarkers that will allow effective monitoring of patients' response to therapy, which could enhance treatment effectiveness in the future.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF EMPLOYEES IN THIS POSITION WILL INCLUDE:
- close cooperation with specialists in machine learning, bioinformaticians, biostatisticians, and other research team members,
- planning further in silico analyses based on rna single-cell sequencing and bulk rna sequencing results generated in the project,
- interpreting analysis results assigned by the project manager as well as from independent initiatives,
- maintaining and updating a patient database related to collected clinical material,
- analyzing data obtained in the context of cancer progression and diagnostics,
- comparing data with current literature or publicly available data repositories,
- presenting and communicating results,
- actively participating in writing scientific publications,
- promoting the project and its results at scientific conferences,
- reading and staying informed about the latest scientific publications.
WE EXPECT FROM THE CANDIDATES
- a master’s degree in one of the following fields: biotechnology, biology, or related,
- status of a phd student (as defined by the higher education act of july 27, 2005) or as a doctoral school participant (under the higher education and science act of july 20, 2018),
- proficiency in english sufficient for comfortably using scientific literature,
- active participation in scientific life, demonstrated by attending conferences, seminars, and symposia,
- strong collaboration skills with other research team members,
- high motivation for scientific work and the ability to work independently,
- engagement, reliability, thoroughness, diligence, and responsibility for assigned tasks,
- initiative in planning experiments and solving problems in scientific and experimental work,
- candidates applying for this position must meet the requirements for a phd scholarship position as described in annex no. 2 to the ncn funds granting rules.
PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in molecular biology techniques, especially working with liquid biopsies,
- Experience in sequencing,
- Knowledge of the R programming language.
WE OFFER:
- a scholarship agreement for a period of 14 months at a gross monthly amount of 5000 pln, with the possibility of extending the agreement if the project is extended - 2 vacancies,
- employment period: 01.12.2024 – 31.01.2026,
