The expectations for candidates are as follows:

1. Holds Ph.D. degrees in biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, molecular biology or a related field/discipline
2. Has experience in molecular biology, genetic engineering, bioinformatics, biochemistry, or molecular biology documented by publications in scientific journals of the         international range (from JCR list)
3. Has experience in the design of primers, cloning of genes and bacterial vectors, the advantage will be the experience in the field of synthetic biology (designing new genes, designing new vectors)
4. Has experience in bioinformatics analyses of genomes; the advantage will be the experience in bioinformatics analyses of bacterial and/or bacteriophages genomes
5. Has experience in techniques for genome modification (e.g., site-directed mutagenesis, marker exchange mutagenesis, CRISPR-based mutagenesis)
6. Has the ability to plan and prepare scientific publications
7. Has excellent communication English skills (including scientific English) in speech and writing
8. Has the ability to present the results of his research publicly
9. It is characterized by responsibility, commitment, and motivation for scientific work

The evaluation of candidates' applications will follow the Regulations for granting funds for the implementation of research tasks financed by the National Science Centre in the field of research projects (NCN Council Resolution No. 61/2020 of 21 May 2020).

Selected candidates who meet the formal and project requirements will be invited to an interview. Interview information will be sent to the invited candidates by email.

Description of tasks:

An assistant professor (postdoc) will be involved in research work carried out as part of the NCN SONATA BIS 10 project "Friends or enemies? The role of prophages in the environmental adaptation and virulence of pectinolytic bacteria: Dickey spp. and Pectobacterium spp. in vitro and in planta'.

The scope of work will include:

  • analyses of bacterial and viral genomes,
  • modification of bacterial genomes (removal of viral sequences),
  • modification of bacteriophages genomes (gene excision/gene insertion),
  • design of synthetic genes and bacteriophage genomes and accompanying bioinformatics analyses,
  • analyses of bacterial gene expression and bacteriophages in vitro and in vivo (e.g., RNAseq, qRT-PCR analyses).

The topics of the work will also include the design of synthetic prophages and bacteriophages and the study of their phenotypes and spread in the population of host bacteria.

Conditions of employment:

Contract duration: 60 months

Start date: to be agreed upon (as soon as possible, preferred: from 01.12.2022)

 

The amount allocated for employment in the project is PLN 10,000/ month (the so-called gross-gross amount)

The time limit for receipt of the application is 15.11.2022

Start date: December 2022, or as soon as possible after this date (negotiable)
